CONCEPT & BASIC POLICY OF THE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

At the University Hospital, we aim to provide high quality healthcare from the patients’ prospective and train excellent medical professionals and staff to have the ability to contribute to society.

Our concept and basic policies:

University Hospital was appointed the community AIDS Clinical Center in March 2007, the landmark Hospital in Okinawa for cancer therapy in February 2008, the center for liver diseases in November 2009, and medical care in remote areas in March 2011. As the Special Functioning Hospital in Okinawa, we provide high quality and advanced medical care, especially in the fields of infectious diseases, cancer and lifestyle-related diseases. We have demonstrated a firm commitment to provide innovative and advanced medical care. While performing these missions and roles, we also aim to contribute to improving healthcare and medical treatment as the leading hospital in Southeast Asia.

Patient Rights and Responsibilities

At the University of the Ryukyus Hospital, we take “safety, security and compassion” as key factors in caring for our patients and their medical care. We fully understand the importance of medical care based on a deep relationship of trust between patient and hospital, and would like to confirm that each patient has the following rights and responsibilities.

Patient rights

  • You have the right to be treated well as a human being.
  • You have the right to receive the best medical care by professionals in any environment and condition.
  • You have the right to receive all information about your illness and medical treatment.
  • You have the right to be involved in the decision-making process about your medical treatment.
  • Confidential treatment and information about your care and condition are kept private.

Patient responsibilities

  • You have the responsibility to provide information about your health condition as accurately as possible in order to receive the best and appropriate treatment.
  • You have the responsibility to be involved in your treatment and discharge plan with your doctor and the doctor in charge.
  • You have the responsibility to follow the hospital rules and cooperate with us and not interfere with medical care so that every patient can receive appropriate treatment.
    In particular, please do not take aggressive behavior or use abusive language. In addition, you have the responsibility to use our property without damages.

※If you do not comply with these responsibilities, you may not be able to continue receiving medical treatment. (In some cases, the police will be called.)

Child Patient Rights

The University of the Ryukyus Hospital has established “Child Patient Rights”. (rules for the protection of children)

  • You will always be shown the utmost respect.
  • You can receive medical treatment which is considered the best way even any illness you have.
  • Depending on your age, sufficient explanations will be given to you about your illness and how it will be treated.
  • You can express your thoughts about your illness and the treatment to the people at the hospital and your family.
  • If you cannot make a decision about your health, you can ask your family to make it for you.
  • If you don’t understand something or feel scared about something, you can always ask hospital staff and your family.
  • You can receive care from the hospital when you need things for your body and mental growth.
  • You can spend time with your parents or with a designated person.
  • According to your age and condition, you will be able to join recreational activities and receive an education.
  • Your privacy is protected at all times.
